BACS obligation
Starting in 2026, many buildings will be subject to the BACS obligation. Firefly helps you comply. Smartly, efficiently, and without technical barriers.
What is the BACS obligation?
As of January 1, 2026, utility buildings with large installations (>290 kW) are legally required to implement a Building Automation and Control System (BACS).
This is not just any system—it’s an intelligent, centralized solution that monitors and controls various systems such as heating and lighting. The goal of this measure is to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
Why BACS?
BACS is not only a legal requirement, it’s also a smart, practical, and essential upgrade for any building.
- It monitors and optimizes your energy usage, helping reduce costs.
- It detects malfunctions and anomalies.
- It actively controls your building systems.
- It uses open protocols, enabling integration with different brands and systems.
- It contributes to a more comfortable and healthy indoor climate.
Firefly is immediately BACS-compliant
Firefly’s building management system is designed according to BACS standards. This means you automatically comply with the legal requirements effective from 2026 (for systems >290 kW) and from 2030 (from 70 kW).
With Firefly, you choose a smart, open, and future-proof system that meets all BACS technical requirements—without complex IT processes.
The Firefly BMS is the BACS solution
Firefly BMS combines flexibility with powerful functionality:
- Real-time monitoring and control of lighting, climate, and energy.
- Open protocols: DALI, KNX, BACnet, Modbus, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, LoRa, and more.
- Full integration with sensors, displays, and other components.
- Smart reporting and automated optimization.
- Fully compliant with EU and local regulations.
- White-label capable: use your own branding.
- Hybrid and future-ready: even older installations can be easily connected.
Even if your building still relies on legacy systems, Firefly enables BACS compliance—without the need for major replacements.
